So, many people may not see this, but this is my portfolio/demo reel! I wanted to talk a bit about applying to art schools for anyone who may need help in the future.
I applied to a lot of schools, mainly to have several options and several backups, the schools are: School of Visual Arts, Mass College of Art and Design, University of Connecticut, Lesley University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Moore College of Art and Design, California College of Art, and Pratt Institute.
All these schools had somewhat different portfolio requirements and preferences. All schools want to see your creativity, in your portfolio it is your job to show who you are and what your art means and represents.
Lesley University is really big on this, they want to see anything and everything you make and they're very curious as to what inspired it and why you approached it how you did.
SVA and Massart are very open too, they like to see your work no matter the medium, however they do want to see things like still lives and figure drawing. With Animation, animated work isn't required but if you have it definitely include it.
Pratt is similar, but the admissions counselors highly recommended to add more pieces that showed off artistic skill and knowledge. For example studies and practice drawings where you develop your skills, composition is a big thing for them and they're somewhat strict with how work is presented and organized.
CCA, I did't get much feedback from them before applying, I applied on a whim and I sent in my same portfolio for SVA.
MICA was actually more strict, they want to see just finished pieces, no wips or sketchbook pages. Most of my portfolio, or at least the best part of it, was composed of sketchbook pages and concept drawings. SO I disregarded their advice at National Portfolio Day and sent my portfolio as it was at the time. And I got in with a scholarship, the counselor even complimented the pieces I was told to discard. An important thing to remember is that at portfolio reviews, admissions counselors will include their personal opinion in your review, so it's good if you can get a second opinion. Some reviewers may hate your work others may love it. All schools have a limit to the pieces you can upload, usually 25, to get around this I put together several sketchbook pages into one image and it allowed me to include more separate work.
